“People, Planet, and Health” - Hear the Cry of the Earth: A Vodcast series

There’s lots of information describing how people impact the environment, but there’s a very important health aspect, too. “People, Planet, and Health,” is a vodcast sponsored by the Archdiocese of Atlanta that discusses the elemental question: What can we do to help people connect with our planet that benefits their health?

Background: The Action Plan was created by a team of scientists from the University of Georgia (UGA) who believe that caring for creation is a moral imperative and that the Pope is an important moral voice in the world.  The idea was developed by St. John Neumann parishioner Susan Varlamoff who recently retired from UGA and leads the SJN Creation Care Team.  These scientists understand the power of the pulpit and see the opportunity to create a movement among the faithful to reverse the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

What is it? The Action Plan is a series of practices that can be done in all houses of worship and by members of various faiths.  It is divided into the following 10 chapters:

  • Parish Activities
  • Energy Conservation and Efficiency
  • Purchasing and Recycling
  • Transportation
  • Water Conservation
  • Buying and Sharing Food
  • Creating Sustainable Landscapes
  • Assisting Climate Vulnerable Populations
  • Making Laudato Si for Young People
  • Political Action
